Forum 3: Geraldton (Mid-West), 24 November 2014
Over 70 mid-west road transport industry participants met for the 3rd Transafe WA Road Transport Industry Safety Forum held in Geraldton on Monday 24 November, 2014.
It was another valuable gathering where the latest safety information was exchanged, people connected, and industry’s concerns and ideas were discussed by operators, end users, regulators, government and industry groups.
“The quality of the speakers and the layout of the event was a credit to Transafe WA and I have relayed this back to our management team.” – Forum 3 Participant
There was a recurring theme of the need to get CoR information through to those who supply drivers/transport operators, and in response links are being made between Transafe WA, the Main Roads WA compliance team and representatives of groups such as mid-west Farm Improvement Groups.
Jillian Dielesen’s session on the disconnect between driver licensing and training generated much discussion and some good ideas which will be further progressed at meetings the LTC has commenced with industry stakeholder groups lobbying for improvements – the next one to be held on Thursday 27/11/14.
Stephen Lane from the Department of Mines and Petroleum was also able to answer lots of DG specific safety questions from participants.
And Peter Janczyk, Mid-West District Traffic Coordinator organised an ATMV (Advanced Traffic Management Vehicle) to visit the event venue for all to view. In the Mid-West Gascoyne district alone this vehicle has increased detection rates by 59 percent over previous methods. Everyone who attended should be up to speed on WA Police’s heavy vehicle enforcement activities in the Mid-West.
