“To support the employees of the road transport industry and the broader community through the delivery of education, awareness and resources that support a safe, professional and sustainable industry.”
TRANSAFE WA is a not-for-profit industry initiative with the vision of aiding the delivery of safer transport industry workplaces and roads by fostering and promoting safer practices. We deliver events and projects for both the road transport industry and the general public focused on safe heavy vehicle operations and interactions. The Association is overseen by a Committee of Management who meet on a regular basis.
Road Transport Industry Forums
To date, TRANSAFE WA has held Road Transport Industry Safety Forums in Perth, Geraldton, Albany, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Port Hedland and Esperance.
Projects
TRANSAFE WA is working to build iNSTRUCKTA! in 2022.
iNSTRUCKTA! is a safety truck resource that will travel the state educating West Australians how to share the road safely with heavy vehicles. Safety Partners are encouraged. If you are interested in being involved with this awesome project, please contact Rob.
Supported by a grant from WA’s Road Safety Commission this campaign includes posters and bumper stickers designed for application on heavy vehicles. GIVE A TRU*K coffee cups and stress trucks are also available. The posters carry four key messages in relation to sharing the road safely with heavy vehicles.

Staff
Rob has over 30 years experience in and around the transport and mining industry in both the service and product supply fields and has a business development and management background.
Rob’s family has strong connections to the road transport industry dating back to the early 1970’s and Rob has recently joined us after 9 years and 1.4 million kms as a heavy vehicle operator.
Sheridan has more than 10 years’ experience in hospitality and event management with extensive expertise in customer service, operations and project management. Since 2018 she has put those skills to good use in the transport industry through her work with the Livestock and Rural Transport Association of Western Australia (LRTAWA). Initially, Sheridan brought her event management expertise to TRANSAFE WA with the launch of iNSTRUCKTA! Her passion for the transport industry, particularly heavy vehicles, continues to grow and she now splits her work week between TRANSAFE WA and the LRTAWA in roles that go beyond event management to include administration, promotion, project management and public relations.
Darren is WA boy born and bred, raised in country WA.
15 years in the Agricultural Industry operating and maintaining various broad acre equipment and 20 years in the Road Transport Industry as a heavy vehicle operator. Darren has serviced mining operations, both surface and underground in the past and for the last 12 years has carried various products to and from the rural regions of WA. He has driven and ridden many of WA roads, for work and personal, and would hate to add up the total kms travelled.
Darren has also completed a Cert IV in Training and Assessing.
Executive Committee
Niomi has over 8 years’ experience in Human Resources and Safety Management roles within the transport industry. During this time, she obtained an external Safety Accreditation as well as an external Quality Accreditation. Whilst in this role, it was Niomi’s responsibly to ensure the compliance of Main Roads Accreditation across all branches, including Mass Management Module. Niomi was lead responder and investigator for all significant investigations and ICAM investigations when serious incidents occurred within the business.
Niomi is a highly qualified individual, holding a degree in; Bachelor of Business HR Management; Bachelor of Arts: Psychology; Diploma in Work Health, Safety; Diploma in Quality Auditing; Diploma in Leadership & Management. Niomi is a great asset to the TRANSAFE WA committee and we are proud to have her as our chairperson
Rick started his career in insurance in 1980 at SGIO & had significant experience across underwriting, claims, marketing & eventually managing the Goldfields office. In 1997 he left SGIO to begin a career in insurance broking & in 2002 bought into Centrewest Insurance Brokers. As Managing Director since 2013 the business has grown from a staff of 10 to 50 since 2013. He was on the board of Steadfast from 2010 to 2012 helping to steer the business to its successful IPO in 2013. Rick is a voluntary board member of Steadfast Foundation & Eastern Pilbara Independent Support. Insurance & risk management remain a passion as he believes managing risk enables businesses to thrive.
Jan has over 30 years’ experience in management and policy development. She has been a member of the WA Senior Executive Service providing advice to Ministers and Cabinet and small business and appeared as an advocate in industrial tribunals and given evidence to Parliamentary Committees. Jan was CEO of a large agribusiness company and is currently a director of business consulting firms CHC Taurus and Cooper Piesse & Associates. Jan consults to agribusinesses and not for profit groups including the Livestock and Rural Transport Association of WA and the WA Pork Producers Assn. She has been a member of the Beef Council of WA, the WA Architects Board and chair of charitable group Prepare Produce Provide.
BFS (Busselton Freight Services) is one of 10 business entities Denis runs with his brother Allan. The others being BFS Logistics WA 2007, BFS Energy, Busselton Advanced Driver Training, Ironman Haulage, Blushh Body Lab, Blushh Hair Salon, Price’s West Busselton Laundromat, WaveLengths Unisex Hair Salon and West Busselton News and Post.
Denis’ passion is fuelled by the desire to be as efficient as possible. Self-taught in business and finance, Denis has developed complex software customised to the family business needs. Denis enjoys greeting staff every day, this level of interaction makes his day.
Committee Of Management
Judi has a rural background as a sheep and cattle station owner of 15 years as well as 20 years in Quality, Food Safety and Risk Management, including working for CBH in WA completing HVAs (Heavy Vehicle Accreditation) and rail audits as well as working as a QA Manager and Technical Compliance Manager in the Food and Not for Profit industries. Judi now completes contract work as well as consulting to companies in risk management and food safety/WHS. Judi was previously the chairperson for their local farming school board of trustees in NZ.
Judi has attained a wide range of qualifications including an Advanced Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance, Diploma in WHS, Diploma in Quality Auditing, Diploma in Business, Diploma in Management, Diploma in Security and Risk Management, Diploma in Interior design and Diploma in Patisserie as well as Lead Auditor ISO 9001, ISO 14001, AS/NZ 4801, Lead Auditor Food Safety.
With over 40 years of transport and logistics experience across the UK, Europe and Australia, both behind the wheel in the early days and in Senior Management overseas, Ian brings a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of the Industry.
Former GM of a Heavy Haulage business here in Perth, and now 10 years with Australia Post / Startrack as State Manager covering all activities across WA and South Australia, his portfolio is significant but remains committed to providing valuable input into our organisation.
Ray has always had a passion for driving machinery and trucks and started his truck driving career in 1988 driving everywhere from Perth to Darwin. In 1991 Ray became an owner operator and in 2005 helped to form the WA Long Distance Owner and Drivers Association of WA and was elected Chairman.
Working with Government departments they were able to gain confidence with the Government and as a result were able to get the Owner Drivers Act for safe rates passed by law and Ray was given a position on the Road Freight Transport Industry Council. Ray has also actively lobbied for improvements to roads, truck bays and road train terminals and his passion for the transport industry has never left him.
Experienced Logistics Manager, and more recently with business development with a demonstrated history of working in the chemicals and transport/logistics industries.
Skilled in negotiation, business planning/strategy, contracts and contractor-management, operations management, human resources/industrial relations, customer relations, HAZOP/risk studies, and safety management systems. Strong operations professional with a Graduate (GAICD) focused in Directorship from Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Gavin is the Chief Executive officer of Nationwide Training. He has been delivering industry leading transport and logistics training in Western Australia for over 16 years with a high importance on road safety, compliance, and industry promotion. He is a WorkSafe accredited high risk assessor and mechanical handling equipment specialist.
Nationwide Training delivers accredited transport and logistics training to a broad range of clients including mining, government, defence, and is the preferred training company for transport companies in WA. Nationwide Training supports road safety through all our training programs and as a proud supporter and member of TRANSAFE WA
